The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Phillip Webb, 87 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Kiser pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. The Stefon Diggs pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
Jalon Walker in Round 2, Pick 1 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 39 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Amos in No. 58. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Xavier Watts, who had no business lasting to the 63rd pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tate Ratledge at pick 66 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tre Harris at the 67th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 8, with Deone Walker worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Mason Taylor at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Milroe at No. 94 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ozzy Trapilo in the 104th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Bhayshul Tuten at pick 133, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Cody Simon was still sitting there in the 148th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Mello Dotson in slot 149, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Burnip in pick No. 171. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.

They left a pile of value on the table to take Thor Griffith this early at No. 247. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
