Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

The Packers torched the value chart for Kimani Vidal, taking him 33 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They banked enough surplus on Bishop to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In pick 32 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper slid further than he should have, and No. 58 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 88
Dominick Puni at the 95th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
Steal is underselling it; Cole Bishop at pick No. 126 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 116
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elijah Jones at the 128th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 147
A reach for Mason McCormick in the 134th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey in pick 169 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
They reached a country mile for Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 252
Kimani Vidal at No. 219 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Bub Means · WR · rank 245
No drama and no debate, Bub Means went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 25. The roster fit checks out.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 285
Value said wait; Blake Watson in slot 255 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
