The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Kyle McCord slide 50 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Sanders left real value on the table behind him.
Adding Grover Stewart by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In the end it comes back to Luther Burden III, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A slide stopped in No. 44, with Omarion Hampton worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Aireontae Ersery come to them and pounced at slot 58. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Bond at pick No. 76 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Smael Mondon Jr. slipping to pick 116 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Anthony Belton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Kyle McCord at the 170th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Raheim Sanders at the 172nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Jonah Monheim in No. 174, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nohl Williams slid further than he should have, and the 190th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Karene Reid was still sitting there in pick 211, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Shilo Sanders in the 249th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
