Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the Round 6 slot is 34 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Packers indulged a want in Kinchens while a need in quarterback and tight end stayed open.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Kinchens at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Keon Coleman in pick No. 19; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
In the 26th overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
T.J. Tampa at No. 49 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 2, Pick 19 on Kamren Kinchens with quarterback and tight end unsolved.
Value with a capital V on Byron Murphy II in pick 83, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Cooper Beebe in slot 92 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Braelon Allen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Kris Abrams-Draine slipping to pick No. 135 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Isaiah Davis in the 197th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 217th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Omar Speights at Round 6, Pick 44 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Blake Watson in No. 240 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
