The trade table was where it all came apart. The Vikings shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Pratt value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Nugent has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a long-term answer under center, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Guyton in slot 42 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 20. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 59 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Josh Newton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Drake Nugent at pick 130 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Luke McCaffrey in the 135th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Beau Brade in slot 155 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Michael Pratt in the 156th overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cam Hart in pick 166 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A quiet steal in No. 179: LaDarius Henderson for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylan Ford in the 190th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board fumbled Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint all the way to Round 6, Pick 24, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Michael Barrett still on the board at pick No. 229. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
