New England Patriots

The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

They are betting Van Pran proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The veteran additions, Jessie Bates III chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In the end it comes back to Dallas Turner, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 13
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 42
Fair-plus on Xavier Legette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 91
Sedrick Van Pran in the 68th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 106
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Fisher. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 132
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 139 with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 155
They went early on Darius Robinson in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
