The rest of the league had time to spare on Gerry Bohanon; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 223 spots ahead at pick No. 248.
The Singleton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
Nick Emmanwori in slot 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Omarion Hampton at No. 45 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in the 49th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Deone Walker at the 75th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jake Majors at pick 102 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at the 116th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a tight end like Gunnar Helm reach the 117th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Rylie Mills at No. 118 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at pick 134 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 151 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Jake Slaughter in Round 5, Pick 30, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Phillip Webb at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nicholas Singleton at slot 218 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Gerry Bohanon at Round 7, Pick 34 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
