The real work happened on the phones. The Dolphins fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in No. 77. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Dominick Puni in Round 4, Pick 8, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Nelson Ceaser at par in the 113th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at pick 125, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Kitan Oladapo in slot 158; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Grayson Murphy at the 166th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Rasheen Ali at pick 186 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Neyor at the 199th pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Eric Gentry in the 242nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
