The Ephesians Prysock selection is the head-turner. The Steelers reached 52 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Allen to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dillon Thieneman in No. 53, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
CJ Allen in pick No. 63 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Christen Miller at slot 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Germie Bernard in the 85th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chase Bisontis in Round 3, Pick 35 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached a country mile for Ephesians Prysock at pick 135, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Nate Boerkircher in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Domani Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Zavion Thomas in slot 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah Jatta at Round 7, Pick 14 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They liked Robert Spears-Jennings enough to skip the value, taking him in the 237th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Zuhn III in pick 246 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Enrique Cruz Jr.. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
