The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Dolphins spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Sainristil that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Keon Coleman slid further than he should have, and slot 58 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in the 91st pick: Mike Sainristil for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach for Beau Brade in Round 4, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Walter Rouse in pick 158, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nelson Ceaser in No. 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Tip Reiman in pick No. 184; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Steele Chambers at the 198th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ryan Flournoy at No. 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Eric Watts in the 219th pick; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tylan Grable in the Round 7 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
