The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Tahj Washington, the No. 192 name on the board, sitting there at the 250th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball. Their trades came out a wash either way.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaden Hicks in the 94th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Sataoa Laumea in slot 135, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Jaylan Ford at Round 6, Pick 41 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled M.J. Devonshire all the way to pick 233, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 250 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
