The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Woody Marks, the No. 190 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 22 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Adams reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Colston Loveland at the 38th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Demetrius Knight Jr. higher than pick No. 69, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at pick 77, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Ozzy Trapilo still on the board at the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Brashard Smith in Round 5, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Carson Vinson in No. 219 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brandon Adams at slot 222 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Woody Marks at No. 240 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
