The trade table was a mismatch, and the 49ers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
The Heidenreich reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Haulcy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
They took Derrick Moore at par in No. 57, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chase Bisontis at slot 58 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let A.J. Haulcy come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Trey Zuhn III in Round 4, Pick 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on Kaytron Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Dametrious Crownover in pick No. 147, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matt Gulbin in the 173rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid a round early for Thaddeus Dixon in pick 209, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached into another round for Eli Heidenreich, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
