There is a lot to like until you notice running back is still a hole. The 49ers never got to the one that mattered most. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Stribling to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every board in the league had Bisontis lower, and that gap is the story. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chase Bisontis at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and De'Zhaun Stribling was the payoff at slot 127. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 133, where Jack Endries graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in the 138th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kaleb Proctor. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in pick No. 139: Parker Brailsford for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
