Somebody in pick No. 87 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Edgerrin Cooper, the No. 59 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Whittington to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the 56th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took James Williams at par in Round 4, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Isaiah Davis in pick No. 174 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in slot 212, with De'Corian Clark worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Whittington. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
