The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Adam Randall, taking him 66 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Prysock at that price is a win they earned.
The Kingsley Suamataia pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach on Joshua Josephs in slot 29; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A slide stopped in the 59th overall pick, with A.J. Haulcy worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jack Endries at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick No. 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Zxavian Harris in No. 139, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Beau Stephens at pick 147 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jeff Caldwell at slot 167 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ephesians Prysock at pick No. 207 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached into another round for Adam Randall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Thaddeus Dixon slipping to pick 232 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A conviction pick on Logan Taylor at the 251st overall pick that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Fa'alili Fa'amoe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
