When a board-topper like Kamal Hadden slides to pick 231, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Roman Wilson at par in the 47th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Andru Phillips in No. 103, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Anthony Gould at pick 137 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Jones at slot 180 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Tip Reiman for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Kamal Hadden at the 231st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
