Pittsburgh Steelers

Capehart should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B.

Call it larceny. DeMonte Capehart sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 8, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Davis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and running back still on the board.

They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 21
In pick 21 they get a building block for the line. Need was not the driver here.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 39
Anthony Hill Jr. in No. 55 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 59
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Germie Bernard at slot 76 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 91
Bryce Lance in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Devin Moore · CB · rank 92
Devin Moore at the 99th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Bud Clark · S · rank 101
They barely believed it either: Bud Clark still on the board at pick No. 121. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · J.C. Davis · OT · rank 139
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and running back to take J.C. Davis, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 35, where Jack Endries graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Julian Neal · CB · rank 118
Taking Julian Neal in pick No. 161 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
R6.35 · Pick 216 · Cade Klubnik · QB · rank 141
Somehow Cade Klubnik was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 137
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like DeMonte Capehart reach Round 7, Pick 8 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
