The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Kurtis Rourke slide 35 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Etienne pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kaleb Johnson in pick 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Andrew Mukuba in the 76th pick, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kobe King at pick No. 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quarterback of that caliber at slot 170 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on JJ Pegues at the 172nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Nelson at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Trevor Etienne in No. 190 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Upton Stout all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Zeek Biggers in slot 249 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
