You can draft well and still miss the point. The Commanders did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Downs at pick 7 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Omar Cooper Jr. for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Skyler Gill-Howard. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Domani Jackson in Round 6, Pick 6 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jadon Canady in the 209th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Noah Whittington at slot 223, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
