You build a draft on nights like this. Tre Harris had no business being available in No. 220, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
A quiet steal in pick 38: Jack Sawyer for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Wyatt Milum at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 77, where Jalen Royals graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jihaad Campbell at No. 104 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Aireontae Ersery in slot 143, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Dylan Fairchild was still sitting there in the 217th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at the 220th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 238 is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
