After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Sainristil steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Caleb Williams and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Graham Barton in the 36th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Payton Wilson in Round 3, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mike Sainristil in No. 102, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Ben Sinnott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Javon Baker in slot 181, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jontrey Hunter at the 223rd overall pick is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jeremy James at pick No. 245 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
