There is reaching, and then there is Dayon Hayes at Round 5, Pick 6. The Patriots jumped the board by 137 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simon. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
