Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Cam Skattebo, the No. 111 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 173.
They will need Miller to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at the 44th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Andrew Mukuba at pick 76 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Jaeden Roberts enough to skip the value, taking him in the 148th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Trey Zuhn III at No. 171, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Skattebo in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Ty Hamilton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Cam Miller in the 209th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, Thor Griffith in the 234th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Shilo Sanders in pick 248 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
