The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Cooper reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The Foster value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels at pick No. 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at slot 39, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Graham Barton at par in No. 47, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Brandon Dorlus in Round 2, Pick 21, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick 75 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Javon Foster at the 155th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Javon Baker in the 186th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wiley a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Darius Muasau in No. 239, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
