The Patriots torched the value chart for Austin Reed, taking him 81 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
The Darius Slayton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Austin Booker at pick 68 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Spencer Rattler enough to skip the value, taking him in the 103rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dallin Holker a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jha'Quan Jackson in the 180th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Reed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominique Hampton. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
