The Solomon Byrd selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 57 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. With quarterback and wide receiver unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Liufau value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
Payton Wilson in slot 50 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Bullard at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at the 64th overall pick that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A want over a need in pick 76: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker while quarterback and wide receiver keeps waiting.
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 15 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Trey Benson in No. 88, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Cole Bishop while clear needs at quarterback and wide receiver sat open.
Javon Foster at slot 99 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Davis at pick 109, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 122 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Jarrian Jones at the 127th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tykee Smith adds a safety and leaves quarterback and wide receiver untouched.
Marist Liufau at Round 5, Pick 32 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in the 204th pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
