The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 158 on Jared Wiley a full 42 spots early.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Worthy at the 61st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Khyree Jackson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 95. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 33. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jared Wiley in slot 158 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Jordan Jefferson at the 172nd overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
