You can draft well and still miss the point. The Giants did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most.
Phillips at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Quinyon Mitchell at the 39th overall pick is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Tyler Guyton, who had no business lasting to the 47th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in pick No. 70. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Michael Pratt in the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in No. 143: James Williams for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Andru Phillips higher than slot 185, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
