The Eagles went off the board in a big way for Kris Abrams-Draine, 30 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
McMillan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Payton Wilson in pick 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A premium they did not need to pay, Blake Corum a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Bullard in slot 71. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 76th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Braden Fiske in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 88th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Spencer Rattler enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 89. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen McMillan in pick No. 91 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Ainias Smith went about where he belonged in the 113th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Foster at No. 121 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Will Shipley at the 125th pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Jaylin Simpson in slot 135; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Javion Cohen at Round 5, Pick 1, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A conviction pick on Trey Knox at pick No. 163 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in pick 172, and that is fine. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They took Javon Baker at par in the 174th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Zakhari Franklin in No. 212; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Xavier Thomas in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Myles Cole in Round 7, Pick 13, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
