A franchise passer in Simpson headlines a B+ weekend for the Raiders.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent the 219th overall pick on Eric Gentry, a name the board had a full 133 spots lower.

The whole projection now runs through Ty Simpson; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That McNeil-Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Ty Simpson · QB · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Jordyn Tyson · WR · rank 9
In pick 16 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Avieon Terrell · CB · rank 17
They barely believed it either: Avieon Terrell still on the board at the 36th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
They robbed the room for Emmanuel Pregnon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in No. 102 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Emmett Johnson · RB · rank 104
Emmett Johnson at pick No. 117 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 173
Aamil Wagner at Round 4, Pick 34 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.35 · Pick 175 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
The board fumbled Drew Allar all the way to pick No. 175, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.4 · Pick 185 · Riley Nowakowski · TE · rank 216
Riley Nowakowski at pick 185 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
Value said wait; Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.5 · Pick 221 · Aaron Anderson · WR · rank 177
Aaron Anderson in No. 221 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
