Thirty-one other rooms let Michael Pratt slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at the 168th overall pick. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Nubin in the 41st pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Christian Haynes in No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Marshawn Kneeland at pick 88 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in the 125th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Michael Pratt in Round 5, Pick 32, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
