The Chargers bet big and early on Kaleb Elarms-Orr, 49 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The Haulcy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Devin Moore at pick No. 69 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: A.J. Haulcy at the 86th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Caden Curry at slot 106 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beau Stephens at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Kaleb Elarms-Orr at Round 4, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Kaleb Proctor in pick No. 165; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zavion Thomas in slot 204 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Trey Zuhn III in the 220th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
