The one they had to fix is still broken. The Patriots left quarterback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
Every board in the league had Stewart lower, and that gap is the story. However the rest shakes out, Simon at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Kelvin Banks Jr. at the 1st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Shemar Stewart in the 36th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tai Felton in pick 79 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jake Majors in Round 4, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Cody Simon, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
A straight-up fair deal on Damien Martinez at No. 219, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaylen Reed in slot 220 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Edwards went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
