The Packers put a flag in the ground for Frank Gore Jr., 24 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Nubin in the 41st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 58 with a little surplus value in Junior Colson. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Christian Mahogany in pick 88 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Braiden McGregor in slot 169 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in the 202nd pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathaniel Watson in No. 219. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Good price on Andrew Raym in pick No. 245, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Sam Hartman at pick 255, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
