This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jermaine Burton, the No. 56 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 91. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Bullock pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, running back and other spots still on the board.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Cooper DeJean higher than slot 41, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 52nd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Payton Wilson in Round 3, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Kamren Kinchens at No. 88 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Jermaine Burton in the 91st pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots to take Calen Bullock, a safety that was not the priority.
They took Cam Hart at par in slot 99, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with edge rusher, running back and other spots open.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Jordan Travis all the way to pick No. 202, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Brevyn Spann-Ford went about where he belonged in pick 245. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Owens at No. 254, value and slot in agreement. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
