When the story of this class is written, it opens with Kaleb Proctor at the 91st pick, a reach of 44 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Thomas where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. A real need, handled.
LT Overton in No. 57 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Connor Lew, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaleb Proctor in pick 91, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on DeMonte Capehart in the 129th pick; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Febechi Nwaiwu at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Nwankpa at pick 239 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy bit of business in the 241st pick, where Zavion Thomas graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
