The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chargers reached some 43 spots for Dallin Holker, and value like that does not grow back.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 20
Fair-plus on Terrion Arnold, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 33
Tyler Nubin at No. 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 38
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Kris Jenkins in pick No. 45 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 59
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 48, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 74
Blake Corum in pick No. 65 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 138
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Value said wait; Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 32 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
