After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Legette makes the weekend a net positive. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 34 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Legette is a better player than the 90th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Trey Benson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ben Sinnott in No. 136 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Javion Cohen come to them and pounced at the 179th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Dwight McGlothern, who had no business lasting to the 185th overall pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Tyler Owens at pick No. 231 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
