The Peny Boone selection is the head-turner. The Browns reached 331 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the arm they will build around, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mykel Williams at the 33rd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Peny Boone in No. 67 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
They took Charles Grant at par in pick 94, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ahmed Hassanein in Round 4, Pick 2 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Chimere Dike at slot 165 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Gillotte at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Burch in Round 6, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the 202nd pick, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kaimon Rucker in the 216th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Fadil Diggs at pick 217 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Cam Ward in slot 257 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
