Boards are made to be trusted, and the Patriots shredded theirs for Marcus Major. He came off 328 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
However the rest shakes out, Cornelius at that price is a win they earned. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
So much rides on Luther Burden III that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Grey Zabel reach No. 69 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Mike Green still on the board at Round 3, Pick 13. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Alijah Huzzie in slot 105 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Marcus Major at pick 145 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Loop this early at No. 219. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Ajani Cornelius at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Bryson Nesbit, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
