When a board-topper like Malachi Moore slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Broughton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lead back with juice. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Booker still on the board at pick 58. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Vernon Broughton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, JJ Pegues well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A running back of that caliber at the 167th pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Malachi Moore was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
