The Commanders won the night they stopped Fairchild from sliding. Grade: B+.

The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dylan Fairchild, the No. 56 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
In the 22nd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ashton Jeanty in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Jahdae Barron · CB · rank 14
They robbed the room for Jahdae Barron here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.9 · Pick 147 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 12
They will replay Walter Nolen at pick No. 147 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 13
Steal is underselling it; Wyatt Milum at the 151st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.30 · Pick 168 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 23
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in slot 168, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 25
Jalon Walker at No. 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Josaiah Stewart · DE-EDGE · rank 42
Josaiah Stewart at pick 171 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Xavier Restrepo · WR · rank 49
Xavier Restrepo in slot 198 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.25 · Pick 239 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 56
The board fumbled Dylan Fairchild all the way to No. 239, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.32 · Pick 246 · Zy Alexander · CB · rank 63
Circle this one: Zy Alexander at the 246th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
