Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Commanders spent the 250th pick on Collin Oliver, a name most had 88 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Tight end is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; TreVeyon Henderson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Tate Ratledge in slot 79, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Donovan Jackson in pick 148 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 207 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Taking Cobee Bryant in pick No. 238 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Collin Oliver in the 250th pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
