Somewhere a general manager is explaining how TreVeyon Henderson got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot.
They will need Mesidor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A safety of that caliber at slot 60 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Matthew Golden still on the board at the 79th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach Round 5, Pick 9 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Clay Webb a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Garrett Dellinger in No. 236 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Akheem Mesidor this early at the 246th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
