Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Mason Taylor, the No. 102 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 23.
The Mesidor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in No. 56, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nice patience on TreVeyon Henderson, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 14. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dont'e Thornton Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Mason Taylor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Seth McLaughlin still on the board at slot 239. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Akheem Mesidor in the 246th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
