The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Ollie Gordon II slide 81 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Reaching for Lee III left real value on the table behind him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 85. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tez Johnson at Round 4, Pick 14 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jake Majors at No. 121 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid a round early for Jaeden Roberts in the 146th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 194 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Lee III well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Shilo Sanders in Round 7, Pick 19 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board fumbled Ollie Gordon II all the way to pick 246, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
