Somebody in Round 6, Pick 29 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They are betting Sanders proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tre Harris in pick No. 61. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Ozzy Trapilo in the 79th pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Carson Schwesinger in the 148th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Cam Skattebo in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Shilo Sanders in slot 238, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
