This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan James, the No. 118 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Booker reach Round 2, Pick 29 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 79 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at pick No. 190 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Connor Colby at the 203rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ryan Fitzgerald at the 236th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Taking Jordan James in pick 247 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
