When a board-topper like Cam Skattebo slides to pick 236, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Every board in the league had Grant lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a disruptor off the edge. A real need, handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Charles Grant in the Round 2 slot, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tez Johnson a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in the 146th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 202 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cam Skattebo in Round 7, Pick 20 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Garrett Dellinger in the 246th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
